There are varied expressions, with many smiling or smiling broadly. At the bottom of the image, there is a handwritten note with an arrow pointing to one of the participants, reading, "We never know who will show up!😉".

We’re glad you’re here.

Culture Matters is the free monthly Zoom gathering for leaders and professionals who believe culture is the work, not just the backdrop. Since 2018, it has brought together people from across industries and roles, from Kansas City to Dallas, New York to Seattle, India, and the UK, to have honest conversations about what it actually takes to build and sustain healthy organizations.

The atmosphere is candid, collegial, and practical. Every session tackles real culture challenges and leaves you with something you can use.

How it started

Kelly Byrnes and Kathy Holmes

In the summer of 2018, Kelly Byrnes and Kathy Holmes were wandering downtown Kansas City looking for the entrance to a networking event for entrepreneurs. They found the door, found each other, and kept the conversation going long after.

Both were thinking hard about culture at a time when most organizations weren't. Kelly had spent two decades in the culture space before it became a business buzzword. Kathy was launching her first company in the field. They started Coffee & Collaboration, an informal monthly gathering where interesting people could talk honestly about what was happening inside their organizations.

When Kathy moved to Dallas in 2020, the in-person mornings shifted to Zoom and became Culture Matters. The name changed; the purpose didn't.

Over 90 sessions later, the group includes founders, executives, HR leaders, project managers, sales professionals, and anyone else who cares about making their organization a better place to work. Kathy has since moved on to other leadership work, but the friendship and collaboration continue.

Culture Matters keeps going because culture always does.
